The Azerkhalcha and the US-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce Signs a Protocol of Intent
A protocol of intent was signed between the Azerkhalcha Open Joint Stock Company and the United States-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce. In accordance with this protocol, events dedicated to Azerbaijani carpets will be held in the United States.
Prior to signing the protocol of intent, Vidadi Muradov, the Chairman of the Board of Azerkhalcha Open Joint-Stock Company, met with Reza Vaziri, the Co-Chair of the US-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce.
Sincerely welcoming the guest, Vidadi Muradov briefed on the work done in recent years for the development of carpet art in Azerbaijan. He noted that 21 carpet factories began operating between the years of 2016-2019 by the Decree (dated May 5, 2016) of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. These factories have so far manufactured products equaling to more than 13,000 square meters. The main task we are now facing is to promote the Azerbaijani carpets around the world and to expand the sales of the Azerkhalcha products in the international carpet market.
It was emphasized that the Azerbaijani carpets have historically been sold in the world market as a brand product. Today, Azerbaijani carpets, stored in many prestigious museums and private galleries around the world, prove that they have historically been purchased as branded products and are very valuable. One of the cultural centers where rare Azerbaijani carpets are held is the Metropolitan Museum in the United States. There are 45 pile-weave and flat-weave Azerbaijani carpets and prayers demonstrated in the museum. These carpets are precious works of art belonging to the groups of Baku, Iravan, Nakhchivan, Karabakh, Gazakh-Borchali, Guba, Shirvan and Tabriz. The oldest Azerbaijani carpets exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum were woven in the 17th century. All of this suggests that a strong interest in the Azerbaijani carpets has always existed in the US.
It was emphasized that in recent years important steps have been taken by the government to restore the reputation of the carpets made using national patterns. The work done in this direction is successfully maintained. The export of our carpets to the world market as the country’s brand is one of the main objectives in the "State Program for the Protection and Development of Carpets in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2018-2022". The Azerbaijani carpet brand has already been created.
Muradov added that in accordance with the instructions of the President of the country, the Azerkhalcha Open Joint Stock Company is taking appropriate measures to maintain and strengthen the position of the Azerbaijani carpets in the world market. The signing of the protocol of intent on the cooperation with the US-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce is a continuation of these events. The goal is to promote Azerbaijani carpets in the US and to expand the sales opportunities of Azerkhalcha products.
It was noted that Azerkhalcha will supply handmade carpets and carpet products for the Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce will demonstrate the carpets at the events in its headquarters in Washington and other locations, and provide the entrepreneurs and individuals involved in this field with the information provided by Azerkhalcha. The parties intend to promote the carpet weaving traditions of Azerbaijan, its history, weavers and carpets in the United States.
The term of this intention protocol is one year. At the initial stage, the Azerkhalcha sent 55 carpets to the United States. An exhibition of these carpets will be held in New York and Washington, in addition to various events. The first event will take place on December 2, at the main building of the US-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce in Washington.
Vidadi Muradov thanked the administration of the US-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce, and in particular Reza Vaziri, the co-chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, for the support of the promotion of the Azerbaijani carpets in the United States.
Reza Vaziri, who gave detailed information about the work of the Chamber of Commerce, said that they will do their best to implement everything stipulated in the protocol of intent.
Then, a protocol of intent was signed between the Azerkhalcha Open Joint-Stock Company and the US-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce. The protocol of intent was signed by Vidadi Muradov, the Chairman of the Board of the Azerkhalcha OJSC, and Reza Vaziri, the Co-Chair of the US-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce.
