Representatives of the Diplomatic Corps Accredited in Azerbaijan Visit Agdam Branch of Azerkhalcha
Representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan visited the Agdam district. The trip was organized by the Presidential Administration and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The diplomats representing more than forty countries and international organizations got acquainted with the Agdam branch of the Azerkhalcha Open Joint-Stock Company. Director of the branch Jeyran Aliyeva noted that carpet-weaving has historically been an integral part of the Azerbaijani people's lifestyle and a vivid example of its national culture. Our people have been developing carpet-weaving traditions by giving them new life for thousands of years. However, as a result of Armenia's military assault against our country and occupation of the mountainous part of Karabakh and the surrounding areas, carpets have not been woven in Karabakh for more than 26 years. The establishment of the branch of "Azerkhalcha" OJSC in Agdam last year is a great contribution to the Azerbaijani carpet weaving art and Karabakh Carpet Weaving School. Karabakh carpet weavers are engaged in their favorite profession to protect carpet-weaving traditions.
It was stated that new carpets are made in Azerkhalcha’s Agdam Branch on the basis of pile-weave and flat-weave carpet products woven in Agdam’s Shikhbabali, Seyidli, Poladli, Melikli, Eyvazli, Orta Gishlag, Kalbajar’s Agjakend, Jamilli villages and Shusha and Khojali cities in the 16th-19th centuries.
It was reported that more than 90 weavers work at the carpet production shop. Most of them are young. They learned the secrets of this art at the training courses organized by Azerkhalcha.
The diplomats expressed their admiration for the carpets made here and inquired about their quality and prices.
